Today was our official first day feeding and hanging with the kids! Alyssa and I went to the Restoration house kitchen and cleaned over 200 plates! The women running the Restoration house started cooking about 2 huge bags of rice and beans for the children! They offered us some! It was delicious! It amazed me how these women cook this amount of food every day for these children! What amazed me even more was when the women started singing and praying over the food. Each one of them was praying at the same time and breaking into song, praising the Lord for the children and the food they were providing for them. It was an incredible experience to witness.
The language barrier is very difficult here in Haiti for me. There are only a few things I can say in Haitian Creole and very few of the women speak English. Despite this, they were very welcoming and taught me some words in Creole. It can often get awkward, though, when neither of you are speaking to each other because you cannot understand one another. I have learned how far a smile can go. Everyone is so friendly, despite our inability to communicate with each other. It has been fun learning Creole and experience the culture that this trip brings!
We are all having a wonderful time and we miss everyone, but there are still 5 more days to go!!!
